FORMER SACRAMENTO COUNTY SUPERVISOR JIMMIE YEE SUPPORTS DAVE JONES FOR SENATE

Sacramento, CA – Today, former Sacramento County Supervisor Jimmie Yee announced his endorsement of Dave Jones for State Senate. Former Supervisor Yee joins a growing list of current and former Sacramento legislators supporting Dave Jones. 
 
Former Supervisor Yee issued the following statement announcing his endorsement:
“Dave Jones works to build stronger communities. In his time on the Sacramento City Council, in the State Assembly, and as California’s Insurance Commissioner, Dave built consensus and developed solutions to meet community needs. The evidence of Dave’s efforts can be found in laws and policies supporting communities and in the resulting affordable housing, public parks, community centers, improved business corridors, basic infrastructure, and public transit. I am supporting Dave Jones for State Senate because I know that he’ll work every day to build stronger communities.”

ABOUT JIMMIE YEE 
Jimmie Yee served on the the Sacramento Board of Supervisors from 2007 to 2015, as the Mayor of Sacramento from 1999 to 2000, and on the Sacramento City Council from 1992 to 1999. Prior to his career as an elected official, Yee had over 40 years of experience as a structural engineer. He also served on 25 advisory bodies, many of which focused on transit. Yee served as Chair of the Sacramento Transportation Authority, as a member of the Sacramento-Placerville Transportation Corridor Joint Powers Authority, and as a member of the Sacramento Planning Commission. 

ABOUT DAVE JONES
Dave Jones began his career as a legal aid attorney, providing free legal assistance to the poor with Legal Services of Northern California. In 1995, he was one of only 13 Americans awarded the prestigious White House Fellowship. Dave served for three years as Special Assistant and Counsel to United States Attorney General Janet Reno.
 
As a Sacramento City Councilmember from 1999 to 2004, Dave authored groundbreaking laws  requiring developers to build more affordable housing, paying workers a living wage, and recognizing domestic partnerships. Dave represented Sacramento in the State Assembly from 2004 through 2010, where he chaired the Assembly Health Committee, the Assembly Judiciary Committee, and the Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. Dave authored 70 bills that were signed into law and was a champion for protecting consumers, expanding access to healthcare, building affordable housing, expanding early child education, protecting the environment, and fighting for working families.     
 
Dave served as California’s seventh Insurance Commissioner between 2011 and 2018, where he worked on behalf of 38 million Californians. In this role, he saved consumers and businesses over $3.11 billion in premiums by regulating rates for auto, homeowners, and other property and casualty insurance. He also implemented healthcare reform, including market reforms to protect consumers and expanded access to health insurance. Since leaving office as Insurance Commissioner, Dave has worked to combat climate change as a Senior Director for The Nature Conservancy and as the Director of the Climate Risk Initiative at UC Berkeley’s  Center for Law, Energy and the Environment (CLEE).
 
Dave is a graduate of DePauw University, Harvard Law School, and the Kennedy School of Government. He and his wife, Kim Flores, are residents of the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento and are the proud parents of two children.
