ASSEMBLY SPEAKER ANTHONY RENDON ENDORSES DAVE JONES FOR SENATE

Sacramento, CA – Today, State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon announced his endorsement of Dave Jones for State Senate. Speaker Rendon joins a growing list of elected and community leaders and organizations supporting Dave Jones.

Speaker Rendon released the following statement announcing the endorsement:
“Dave Jones is one of the most effective and progressive legislators and policy leaders in California. His 20 years of leadership on climate change, affordable housing, early childhood education, and consumer protection have helped improve the lives of millions of Californians. As a former Sacramento City Councilmember, State Assemblymember, and California State Insurance Commissioner, Dave has the experience to tackle tough problems and a track record of delivering change. Please join me in supporting Dave Jones for State Senate!”

ABOUT ANTHONY RENDON
Anthony Rendon is speaker of the California State Assembly, a position he has held since March 2016. Since 2012, Rendon has represented the 63rd Assembly District, which includes nine cities – Bell, Cudahy, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, South Gate and a northern portion of Long Beach. Prior to serving in the Assembly, Rendon was an educator, non-profit executive director, and environmental activist. He led Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. as executive director. Plaza provides comprehensive child development and social and medical services to over 2,300 children and families offered through Plaza’s 35 child development centers located throughout Los Angeles County. Before working at Plaza, Rendon served as the interim executive director of the California League of Conservation Voters from 2008 to 2009.

ABOUT DAVE JONES
Dave Jones began his career as a legal aid attorney, providing free legal assistance to the poor with Legal Services of Northern California. In 1995, he was one of only 13 Americans awarded the prestigious White House Fellowship. Dave served for three years as Special Assistant and Counsel to United States Attorney General Janet Reno.
 
As a Sacramento City Councilmember from 1999 to 2004, Dave authored groundbreaking laws  requiring developers to build more affordable housing, paying workers a living wage, and recognizing domestic partnerships. Dave represented Sacramento in the State Assembly from 2004 through 2010, where he chaired the Assembly Health Committee, the Assembly Judiciary Committee, and the Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. Dave authored 70 bills that were signed into law and was a champion for protecting consumers, expanding access to healthcare, building affordable housing, expanding early child education, protecting the environment, and fighting for working families.     
 
Dave served as California’s seventh Insurance Commissioner between 2011 and 2018, where he worked on behalf of 38 million Californians. In this role, he saved consumers and businesses over $3.11 billion in premiums by regulating rates for auto, homeowners, and other property and casualty insurance. He also implemented healthcare reform, including market reforms to protect consumers and expanded access to health insurance. Since leaving office as Insurance Commissioner, Dave has worked to combat climate change as a Senior Director for The Nature Conservancy and as the Director of the Climate Risk Initiative at UC Berkeley’s  Center for Law, Energy and the Environment (CLEE).
 
Dave is a graduate of DePauw University, Harvard Law School, and the Kennedy School of Government. He and his wife, Kim Flores, are residents of the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento and are the proud parents of two children.
