Sacramento, CA – Today, California Environmental Voters, the organization previously known as the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV), announced its endorsement of Dave Jones for State Senate. California Environmental Voters joins a growing list of organizations and elected and community leaders supporting Dave Jones.
California Environmental Voters CEO Mary Creasman released the following statement announcing the endorsement:
“Dave Jones doesn’t just understand the global climate crisis; he has spent over two decades fighting to solve it. As a City Councilmember, State Assemblymember, and State Insurance Commissioner, Dave leveraged all the tools at his disposal to protect the environment and advance climate justice. Dave worked to get the insurance industry to address climate risks, including divesting from coal — the first financial regulator in the world to do so. To everyone who cares about clean air and water, habitat conservation and wildlife protection, and taking the necessary actions to address the climate crisis, California Environmental Voters urges you to support Dave Jones for State Senate.”

ABOUT DAVE JONES
Dave Jones began his career as a legal aid attorney, providing free legal assistance to the poor with Legal Services of Northern California. In 1995, he was one of only 13 Americans awarded the prestigious White House Fellowship. Dave served for three years as Special Assistant and Counsel to United States Attorney General Janet Reno.
As a Sacramento City Councilmember from 1999 to 2004, Dave authored groundbreaking laws requiring developers to build more affordable housing, paying workers a living wage, and recognizing domestic partnerships. Dave represented Sacramento in the State Assembly from 2004 through 2010, where he chaired the Assembly Health Committee, the Assembly Judiciary Committee, and the Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. Dave authored 70 bills that were signed into law and was a champion for protecting consumers, expanding access to healthcare, building affordable housing, expanding early child education, protecting the environment, and fighting for working families.
Dave served as California’s seventh Insurance Commissioner between 2011 and 2018, where he worked on behalf of 38 million Californians. In this role, he saved consumers and businesses over $3.11 billion in premiums by regulating rates for auto, homeowners, and other property and casualty insurance. He also implemented healthcare reform, including market reforms to protect consumers and expanded access to health insurance. Since leaving office as Insurance Commissioner, Dave has worked to combat climate change as a Senior Director for The Nature Conservancy and as the Director of the Climate Risk Initiative at UC Berkeley’s Center for Law, Energy and the Environment (CLEE).
Dave is a graduate of DePauw University, Harvard Law School, and the Kennedy School of Government. He and his wife, Kim Flores, are residents of the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento and are the proud parents of two children.
