Sacramento, CA – Today, Congressmember Ted Lieu announced his endorsement of Dave Jones for State Senate. Congressmember Lieu joins a growing list of current and former legislators supporting Dave Jones.
Congressmember Lieu issued the following statement announcing his endorsement:

ABOUT TED LIEU
Congressman Ted W. Lieu represents California’s 33rd Congressional District. Serving his fourth term in Congress, Ted was elected Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee. Ted was also appointed as an Assistant Democratic Whip. He serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. Ted has taken a leadership role in Congress on a number of vital policy issues.
As a veteran and Reservist, Ted is a strong advocate for our women and men in uniform. California’s 33rd Congressional District includes the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, the largest VA hospital in the country. Ted helped secure $35 million for vital safety improvements at the West LA VA.
Ted is the author of first-of-its-kind legislation to ban the fraudulent practice of so-called “gay conversation therapy,” as well as a bill to improve our criminal justice system by eliminating the injustice of money bail. The very first bill Ted introduced when he got to Washington was legislation to address climate change modeled on California’s landmark Global Warming Solutions Act, which he coauthored when he served in the State Legislature. Ted also led the call for investigations into Exxon Mobil’s decades-long campaign of misinformation about climate science.
Ted and his wife Betty, a former California Deputy Attorney General, are residents of Torrance. Betty currently serves a Vice President of the Torrance Board of Education. Their two sons, Brennan and Austin, attend public school in Torrance.
ABOUT DAVE JONES
Dave Jones began his career as a legal aid attorney, providing free legal assistance to the poor with Legal Services of Northern California. In 1995, he was one of only 13 Americans awarded the prestigious White House Fellowship. Dave served for three years as Special Assistant and Counsel to United States Attorney General Janet Reno.
As a Sacramento City Councilmember from 1999 to 2004, Dave authored groundbreaking laws requiring developers to build more affordable housing, paying workers a living wage, and recognizing domestic partnerships. Dave represented Sacramento in the State Assembly from 2004 through 2010, where he chaired the Assembly Health Committee, the Assembly Judiciary Committee, and the Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. Dave authored 70 bills that were signed into law and was a champion for protecting consumers, expanding access to healthcare, building affordable housing, expanding early child education, protecting the environment, and fighting for working families.
Dave served as California’s seventh Insurance Commissioner between 2011 and 2018, where he worked on behalf of 38 million Californians. In this role, he saved consumers and businesses over $3.11 billion in premiums by regulating rates for auto, homeowners, and other property and casualty insurance. He also implemented healthcare reform, including market reforms to protect consumers and expanded access to health insurance. Since leaving office as Insurance Commissioner, Dave has worked to combat climate change as a Senior Director for The Nature Conservancy and as the Director of the Climate Risk Initiative at UC Berkeley’s Center for Law, Energy and the Environment (CLEE).
Dave is a graduate of DePauw University, Harvard Law School, and the Kennedy School of Government. He and his wife, Kim Flores, are residents of the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento and are the proud parents of two children.
